Whitgift Church is a Grade 1 listed building situated in a large, low lying church yard on the South bank of the River Ouse.

The first church dates back to around 1130 but was later destroyed and subsequently rebuilt in the 13th Century, with further extensive rebuilding in the early 18th century. The church is well known for its extra number on the clock face.

Whitgift Church is very welcoming and caring regardless of denomination. Although congregation numbers are low, the church is well supported by the local community, it hosts various traditional events, church fayres, garden parties and is particulary known for its Sunday openings in summer selling cakes and refreshments.

Our services last no more than an hour and all are welcome to join us for prayer and worship. Praise for all Ages is at 11am on the first Sunday of the month, Morning Prayer at 10am on the Second Thursday of the Month and Holy Communion at 9.30am on the 3rd Sunday of the month.

When the church is open for refreshments from 9.30am to 12.30 am on Thursdays, except in January, and on Sundays from 11.30am to 4.30pm from May to September, it is possible to light a candle and pray.

Baptisms take place in our service at 11am on the first Sunday of the month.

If you wish to book a baptism or a wedding please contact Revd Justine Smith on 01405 704626 or justine.smith@sheffield.anglican.org. Details of events and special services are on our facebook page: The Marshland Benefice.
